PBS Fort Wayne is excited to announce that our main broadcast channel is now available for free live streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Those that are not Prime members will still have free access to PBS Fort Wayne’s live programming under the “Watch for Free” section within Prime Video. Also included is the PBS KIDS channel, and both channels will stream without inserted ads.
PBS Fort Wayne can be found in the “Live TV” section on Amazon Prime Video, under “Entertainment.” It is also currently being highlighted in the “Featured” genre.
This marks the first time PBS Fort Wayne programming will be available for free on a major streaming service. This partnership expands PBS Fort Wayne’s reach to more viewers on the streaming platforms they use and will help PBS KIDS reach as many households as possible — for free, across various platforms.
This is also a significant milestone for PBS and PBS Fort Wayne in delivering high-quality programming to a broader Free Ad-Supported Television (FAST) audience, particularly at a time when two in three U.S. viewers use a FAST platform.
Additionally, PBS Distribution (PBSd), a leading distributor of public media content around the world, has created two new FAST channels - PBS Drama and PBS Documentaries. These channels are available exclusively for a limited time on Prime Video. PBSd will also offer a “pop-up” FAST channel featuring a rotating selection of classic PBS shows, starting with READING RAINBOW.
Stated PBS Fort Wayne’s President/General Manager Bruce Haines, “It’s exciting and essential for a local station’s broadcast to be accessible on a very popular platform for free. This provides a new outlet that expands viewership for PBS Fort Wayne’s local programming, specials, and regional documentaries. It truly moves our public service mission forward.”
“PBS member stations will be able to tap into a leading streaming service to offer quality local programming viewers know and love for free,” said PBS Chief Digital and Marketing Officer, Ira Rubenstein. “It’s part of the PBS commitment to make trusted content available to all households across as many platforms as possible. We thank Amazon for giving PBS Member Stations a new and exciting way to grow their digital footprint while engaging with audiences old and new.”
"We're delighted to bring PBS's trusted, high-quality programming to our FAST channels,” said Ryan Pirozzi, Head of Prime Video Marketplace. "We have put together one of the most exciting FAST offerings today for Prime Video customers, driven by a highly personalized experience, and a leading selection of channels featuring fan favorite series, movies, news, sports, and more. We know our customers will be excited to discover that their beloved PBS member stations and two new PBS FAST Channels are now part of our growing offering.”
PBS Fort Wayne is excited to add Amazon Prime to list of platforms viewers can use to access quality programming and award-winning local productions. The PBS Fort Wayne main broadcast channel is also available to stream with a subscription through YouTubeTV and Hulu+ Live TV, and for free on LocalNow. It is also available for free streaming on all PBS platforms such as PBS.org and the free PBS App, available on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung Smart TV, Chromecast, and VIZIO. Links for free streaming can be found at pbsfortwayne.org and through the free PBS Fort Wayne App, available for Apple iOS and Android devices.
